The warehouse channel saw significant growth in 2020 and Sam’s Club was positioned to win with a strong omni foundation to conveniently serve our members. We drove sustainable growth through member advocacy, offering great items at disruptive prices and special member experiences.
Sam’s Club’s innovation and technology enabled culture continues to simplify the member experience and operations for our associates, driving productivity and efficiency across our business. Our digital tools and omni capabilities contributed to our 11.8% comp sales growth, excluding fuel.
Members responded to Sam’s Club’s contactless, omni-offerings like direct-to-home shipping, curbside pickup and Scan & Go. We expanded curbside pickup across the fleet in June and orders increased triple-digits for the year. Additionally, member adoption of Scan & Go increased significantly during FY21 with the sales penetration rate up 560 bps y/y.
Sam’s Club’s unique Omni capabilities and focus on member experience contributed to a strong year for membership. We added more than six times the number of members compared to the prior year and renewal rates improved 400 bps, which resulted in a 9.4% increase in membership income.
