2019 Annual Report

Grady Health System continues to transform to best meet the needs of the community we serve. We could not do so without the generosity and support of the thousands of individuals, companies, and foundations who choose to donate to Grady every year.

2019 saw the successful completion of our capital campaign, which raised $96 million in private funding for a new surgical center to meet the intensifying demand for acute and outpatient surgeries by increasing capacity, improving efficiency, and expanding essential medical services. This new building – the first on Grady’s campus in years – would not be possible without equally incredible public support from the Fulton and DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, both of which unanimously supported the issuance of bonds to help fund this transformative project.

Grady’s campus will see another significant transformation with the opening of the Jesse Hill Market, which will house our Food as Medicine program. In partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Open Hand Atlanta, this innovative venture will address both food insecurity and chronic disease management through a food pharmacy, teaching kitchen, healthy café, and onsite nutrition services. We are grateful to The James M. Cox Foundation, The Home Depot Foundation, Invest Atlanta, The Tull Charitable Foundation, The Imlay Foundation, The Jesse Parker Williams Foundation, and others whose generosity made this project possible.

Thanks to invaluable event partners and sponsors including The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Delta Air Lines, The Home Depot Foundation, and the Hennessy Automotive Group, our 2019 marquis events – the White Coat Grady Gala and VeloCity - were both well attended and financially successful. And we will always be grateful to have been included as a beneficiary of the In Bernie’s Honor celebration, which recognized the indelible and generational impact that Bernie Marcus has made on our community through philanthropy.

Of course, great things do not happen without even greater leadership. We have benefitted tremendously from the wisdom and leadership of Grady Health Foundation Board Chair Pete Correll and look forward to working with his successor, Drew Evans, in 2020 and beyond.

Finally, we thank the thousands of donors who choose to support Grady’s mission. Together, we will transform not only Grady Health System, but the health and wellbeing of our community.
