Cox Television operates both network-affiliated and independent television stations across the country, as well as local cable TV channels. In addition to its broadcasting stations, Cox Television owns three television advertising sales rep firms, which together are number one in this industry segment.
Highlights of the Year
  • WFTV (Orlando), WSB-TV (Atlanta) & KTVU (Oakland-San Francisco) all launched local newscasts in High Definition (HD). WFTV is the only station in Florida offering HD news, WSB is the first in Atlanta with an HD helicopter, and KTVU is the first HD local newscast in San Francisco.
  • Posted record revenue for the TV stations, with the highest revenue in the history of the group.
  • Grew Internet revenues by 45 percent and cash flow by 67 percent over 2005.
  • Provided extensive election year news coverage, as well as local debate coverage, free airtime to candidates and public service campaigns designed to motivate citizens to exercise their voting privilege. The Washington News Bureau was an integral part of local station news coverage, providing stories and interviews of local representatives serving in Washington.
  • News leadership and market share leadership continue to be hallmarks of Cox stations in their local markets. Seven of Cox's nine news operations are audience leaders. Eight of nine are consistently ranked in the top two of revenue share.
